Find Yourself in Stokedville: New Jersey’s Hidden Gem for Alternative Fashion and Handmade Goods

Hey, I’m Sal - but most people know me as Social Gal. I chase chaos, beauty, and big energy across New Jersey, turning late-night comedy sets, underground art shows, and hometown legends into stories that *hit*. If it’s weird, raw, or lowkey iconic, I’m already three steps ahead with a notebook and a hot take. I almost died after being diagnosed with heart cancer and documented it all on online in hopes I could leave something behind if I die. Surprisingly, I survived but my love for documentation never died. I came out louder, bolder, and more in love with life than ever. I believe the best stories aren’t polished - they’re real, messy, and full of soul. That’s what I bring to NJ Radar. Catch me wherever the vibes are real, the people are unfiltered, and the stories *actually matter*.

Where the Weird Walks In and Stays Awhile

You don’t just stumble into Stokedville.

You feel it pulling you in from the sidewalk like some magnetic force field made of leather jackets, handmade jewelry, taxidermy, and defiant energy.

There’s no corporate playlist here. No safe beige walls. No bored cashier half-listening to true crime podcasts.

Stokedville is a full-blown alternative universe, stitched together by people who grew up feeling a little too loud, a little too weird, and a little too in love with the idea of living differently.

Originally born in Montclair and now thriving in the heart of Boonton, Stokedville is an extension of the people who walk through its door.

A living, breathing rebellion against mass-produced "personalities."

A safehouse for anyone who's ever dyed their hair purple at 2am and thought, "Yeah, this feels right."

And once you step inside?

Good luck ever wanting to leave.

Built from the Beat of a Different Drum

Stokedville didn’t pop out of some Silicon Valley brand meeting. It was born the old-school way: by people who actually live the life.

Opened in Montclair back in 2019, Stokedville started as a space to explore the darker side of pop culture - a home for the weird, the loud, the unapologetically different.

And after surviving the pandemic - while a lot of other places crumbled - Stokedville caught fire in the best way.

Artists like Chainlink, Eye of Shiva, and Molly Monroe came into the fold, bringing new energy, new pieces, and a vibe that felt unstoppable.

By 2024, Link Brown (AKA Chainlink) officially took over ownership after spending years managing the shop before making it fully his own.

Speaking of Link, he was never here to follow trends.

Alternative fashion wasn’t just a "style" to him, it was part of his identity. It was music, high school chaos, and discovering Warped Tour like a secret map to the people who finally made sense.

He cut his teeth DIY-ing fits, stitching his own voice into everything he wore.

Growing up, there wasn’t anywhere to buy your identity…especially if you wanted jewelry that didn’t make your skin turn green in three minutes.

And these are just the earrings! Their necklaces, chokers and rings are another level

He built what he couldn’t find: high-quality, unisex, handmade pieces that reflect your identity.

Taking over Stokedville wasn’t a business decision.

It was a declaration : Alternative fashion deserves better. Alternative people deserve better.

He’s made damn sure there’s a place where we don’t have to explain ourselves to anyone.

From Montclair to Boonton: A Relocation, A Revolution

Stokedville didn’t leave Montclair by choice. It got pushed out…classic story.

Bad landlords having power trips. Shady energy. You know the type: smile in your face, stab you in the lease.

The move wasn’t part of the plan. But looking back? It was the best thing that could’ve happened.

Boonton was a reset.

A town where people actually talk to you. Where local businesses cheer for each other instead of lurking in the shadows taking notes.

Instead of cold competition, it’s community.

ALSO TEA…instead of hiking miles between shops, it’s a walkable town where everyone feels connected. Seriously, Main Street was built by hands that still believe in building something communal and cohesive

For Stokedville, that shift wasn’t just refreshing, it was oxygen.

It gave the store room to breathe. Room to grow. Room to finally become what it was always meant to be:

A hometown for outsiders.

Inside Stokedville: Welcome to the Beautiful, Chaotic Maze

You walk into Stokedville expecting a store.

You end up inside a stitched-together universe - part haunted museum, part backstage dressing room, part fever dream from your best teenage day. It personally reminds me of vaudeville!

The first thing you notice (besides the circus looking walls)? The jewelry. Everywhere.

Metal rings, unisex chokers, high-grade chains that actually feel like armor instead of plastic junk.

The kind of stuff you wear like a weapon. Then your eye catches the coffin-shaped bags.

The Mike Myers purse. The horror-themed jackets and vests that look like they were ripped off a monster who decided to start a punk band.

Walk to the counter and it gets weirder - in the best way.

Snakes in jars. Creepy-cute Skelanimals merch you haven't seen since you first discovered eyeliner and feelings. Sunglasses that look like they could stop a demon in traffic. Pins and patches and stickers stacked high, ready for you to DIY your life into something even wilder.

And for the ones who want to stay comfortable while still keeping it goth? Yeah, they’ve got you too.

Alt-styled sweats that say “I’m spooky but I still respect nap time.”

Everywhere you turn, it’s another little portal into someone’s twisted, brilliant creativity.

Stokedville isn’t some sterilized mall setup.

It’s a home base for artists, punks, weirdos, and wanderers who decided “normal” wasn’t worth dressing up for.

Stokedville Is An Umbrella

"Alternative" isn’t one look.

It isn’t one band, one style, one stereotype.

It’s an umbrella - wide enough to cover anyone who ever felt a little off in the best possible way.

At Stokedville, alternative means everything:

It’s a piercing, a patch, a purple-stained hair dye job.

It’s screaming along to metal breakdowns or crying to emo ballads in your bedroom.

It’s queer kids swapping band pins and tattoo sketches.

It’s punks, goths, weirdos, daydreamers, artists - all finding a reason to stay a little longer inside a world that finally gets it.

Because yeah, you can shop here.

You can buy the coolest horror jacket you’ll ever own.

You can pick up a snake-in-a-jar and some earrings that double as low-key weapons.

But the real thing you leave with? Community.

Stokedville isn’t a brand.

It’s a battle cry stitched into leather and silver.

It’s what happens when you refuse to shrink, even when the world tells you to.

And if you’ve been looking for your people? Good news.

They’ve been waiting for you.
