Needlepoint for Beginners

The centuries-old art of Needlepoint has been making a comeback in recent years.  Many people are interested in getting started on a project, but don't know where to start or are confused by how to stitch the piece.  This workshop will teach the novice Needlepointer how to stretch your canvas, attach it properly  to stretcher bars, and chart out your project.  Using four different types of thread, stitchers will learn four basic stitches that will add fun and dimension to your stitching.  Stitches include; the basic tent stitch, a diagonal stitch,  an oblique stitch, and a straight stitch.  

Participants will receive all supplies necessary to complete a colorful "stitch sampler".  Stitchers will also be given a small painted canvas on which to practice their stitches.  The only supplies needed to bring are a small hammer, a bright stitching light if you have one (Ott-type light), and a sewing magnifier if you need one.
Instructor Bio:  Margie Margentino-Dry has been doing all types of Needle-Art since the age of 14.  Over the years, she was very active in 4-H and county fairs, where her pieces have won numerous awards, including Best-Of-Show.   She grew up in New Jersey, but now lives with her husband Larry on their working ranch in Oklahoma, where they raise Long Horn cattle, horses, and Russian Retrievers. She has recently started a small womens/ group in her area that is focusing on Needle-Arts.
